Regulatory Defence acts for regulated professionals across the UK at every stage of a complaint, investigation, conduct hearing, fitness-to-practise hearing, or disciplinary tribunal.
Our practice spans every major UK regulator, the healthcare regulators (GMC, NMC, HCPC, GDC, GPhC, GOC, GOsC, GCC, Social Work England, SSSC), the legal regulators (SRA, BSB, CILEx), the accounting bodies (ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA), the financial regulators, and the Care Quality Commission.
We act for doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, optometrists, psychologists, paramedics, social workers, solicitors, accountants, and other regulated professionals whose career, registration and reputation are at stake.

Jake Herman founded Regulatory Defence in 2023 after years as in-house lawyer at the General Medical Council. In that role he drafted decisions, advised case examiners, and worked across the GMC’s investigation and tribunal stages, experience that informs how we read every case and shape every defence today, regardless of which regulator is on the other side of the table.
Jake qualified as a solicitor in 2015. Before specialising in regulatory work he practised in clinical negligence, commercial litigation, and employment law. He is admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales and is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Every case is solicitor-led. You work directly with a regulated solicitor, not a case handler or paralegal routed through one. Fees are agreed up front, hourly or fixed, with SRA-compliant transparency.
We offer every prospective client a free, confidential one-hour consultation before any engagement, and we will be straight with you about whether we are the right firm for your case.
