Unrepresented doctors face severe sanctions at tribunal hearings
According to data obtained by Medical Protection nearly 37% of doctors who graduated overseas were legally unrepresented when facing a Medical Practitioners Tribunal.
These overseas doctors without representation were 83% more likely to receive severe sanctions, such as suspension or erasure. Conversely, those with legal representation received more lenient outcomes, with 55% facing suspension or erasure and 27% receiving no impairment outcomes.
Having worked at the GMC, Regulatory Defence’s Jake Herman has seen first-hand the mental, physical and reputational impact these proceedings have on healthcare professionals. Regulatory Defence are well versed in providing not only expert legal advice but also comprehensive support throughout the life of an investigation.
We encourage all doctors to seek advice and support from either their indemnifier or legal representative, should they find themselves subject to an investigation.
